Life term for four

GUJRANWALA, Jan 22: An additional district and sessions judge awarded on Tuesday life term to Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Rafiq, Iradat Ali and Muhammad Ashraf in a murder case.

Judge Iftikhar Hussain Shah acquitted co-accused Zulqarnain, Nasir Mahmood, Zulfikar Ahmad, Muhammad Sadiq, Nazar Muhammad, Muhammad Riaz and Babar Hussain, giving them the benefit of doubt.

According to the prosecution, the four convicts killed Ghulam Mustafa over a land dispute two years ago.

The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1, Gujranwala, awarded 16 years imprisonment with Rs16,000 collective fine to Muhammad Khalid and Muhammad Salim on charge of firing on a police party in Dhengranwali village on Feb 8, 2000.

The convicts will have to undergo nine months rigorous imprisonment each in case of default of the payment of fine.

ROAD ACCIDENT: The passenger of a wagon was killed by another wagon on GT Road on Tuesday.

Muhammad Anwar of Sheikh Rajawal village was standing on the footrest of a wagon. Another wagon hit him while overtaking a vehicle. He fell on the road and was run over by the other wagon. He died on the spot.

Saddar police removed the body to the civil hospital. The wagon driver was arrested and a case registered against him.
