HYDERABAD, Jan 22: The deputy election commissioner, Hyderabad division, Sono Khan Baloch, announced that the work regarding preparation of fresh electoral rolls for the October 2002 general election was in full swing.

The enumeration staff is going door-to-door to verify entries made in the first draft electoral rolls and enrolment of all eligible voters 21 years or above, deletion of bogus entries, and correction of particulars of voters.

The work was started on Jan 1 and will be finished by Jan 30.

In this regard, he has advised the public to extend full cooperation to the enumeration staff and give correct information so as error-free electoral rolls may be prepared and published.

He said according to the enumeration staff about 65 per cent verification work had been completed upto 20-01-2002.

He said that if the enumeration staff had any complaints, complaint centres had been established in the field offices of the Election Commission, and added that complaints could be reported at the office of the deputy election commissioner, Hyderabad Division, on Ph No784763 or Fax No784420; at the office of the assistant election commissioner/registration officer, Hyderabad, on Ph No786065; at the office of the assistant election commissioner/registration officer, Dadu, on Ph No3309; at the office of the assistant election commissioner/registration officer, Thatta, on Ph No771343; and at the office of the assistant election commissioner/registration officer, Badin, on Ph No61294.

He said the officers of the election commission had also chalked out their tour programmes at the Taluka level to check the process of enumeration work, and added that their tour programme was being published in local newspapers for the information of the general public.

He said that in case of any genuine complaint, the deputy election commissioner or assistant election commissioner/registration officer concerned would make on-the-spot enquiries to redress the grievance of the public in order to ensure that the electoral rolls were free from errors and spurious entries.

He said that for completing the verification process, 93 assistant registration officers, 1,068 supervisors, and 3,474 enumerators had been appointed in Hyderabad division.
