MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 19: The Helping Hand for People Equality (Hope), an NGO, had demanded immediate and peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute.
Around 200 members, mainly students of the Aazad Jammu and Kashmir University, of Hope staged a rally here on Saturday to make the demand.
“We Want Solution of Kashmir Now” read a big banner held by the participants. They were also carrying several placards inscribed with slogans denouncing terrorism and calling for an end to Indian repression in the held Kashmir.
Ms Taqdees Gillani, the chairperson of the NGO and a professor of English in the AJK university, asked the world community to force India to stop repression in the occupied Kashmir and resolve the issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris.
Later, the participants marched up to the office of the United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan in the AJK capital where they staged a sit-in outside the barrier. Activists of the National Students Federation, a pro-independence group of the Kashmiri students, also staged a demonstration demanding New Delhi and Islamabad to pull out their troops from Kashmir.
