GUJRANWALA, Jan 19: The Range DIG on Saturday got registered a case against former Kamoke Sadar SHO and an investigating officer for torturing and keeping in detention an innocent man.
SHO inspector Javid Iqbal and SI Masood Khan kept Bakir Malik in illegal confinement and tortured him.
After his recovery by a Lahore High Court bailiff, DIG Khawaja Khalid Farooq ordered departmental inquiry which found them guilty.
MURDER: A man was shot dead while his friend injured by their rivals over a money dispute in Asghar Colony here on Saturday. Muhammad Nawaz and his friend Habibur Rehman were present in their ‘Dera’ when accused Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Nazir and Muhammad Ibrahim came there and opened fire.
Nawaz died on the spot while his friend sustained injuries. He was rushed to the local civil hospital in critical condition. Sabzi Mandi police have registered the case against the accused.
Fake documents: An election tribunal on Saturday cancelled the election of two councillors on charge of submitting fake documents supporting their nomination.
Councillor Muhammad Tayyab Mughal provided fake documents to the returning officer regarding his date of birth. He has now been replaced by his rival and runner-up, Nadimul Hassan.
Sodara Town councillor Rana Malik submitted fake statements of his assets. Runner-up Muhammad Boota was declared elected in his place.
CASES REGISTERED: Three prayer leaders were booked by police on charge of violating ban on using loudspeakers in and around the city on Saturday. They were identified as Qari Jamshed Ahmad of Jamia Masjid Umer Farooq, Ahmad Shah Aroop, Maulana Faiz-i-Rasul of Jamia Masjid Khusbo Alam, Chowk by-pass, and Qari Akhtar Mahmood of Ahmadnagar mosque. Police teams were searching the three.
