KARACHI, Sept 12: The Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Iftikhar Haider, has directed that all open manholes be immediately covered. He also asked the engineers of the organization that in view of rains they should keep close vigil on KWSB installations, pumping stations and the development and construction work on the K-III project so as to check any adverse impact of the downpour.

Brig Iftikhar was addressing the engineers and staff after visiting the pumping stations at Dhabeji, Gharo, Pipri and various components of K-III project.

He said the KWSB had already undertaken planning before the advent of rains and had also activated the complaint centres in this respect.

Brig Iftikhar was of the view that owing to such measures no major complaint had been received so far. He, however, said a few complaints of minor nature were registered with the KWSB.

The MD further stated that because of disruption in power supply in some of the areas, the sewerage pumping was affected and as a result there were complaints of overflowing. He said that immediate steps were taken to address such complaints.

Brig Iftikhar also reviewed repair work on 84-dia sewerage trunk at Ziauddin Ahmed Road. It was pointed out that the line was laid 45 years ago and it had outlived.

Chief Engineer Fareed Soomro and Executive Engineer Raees Ahmed were also present on the occasion. —APP
