KARACHI: Sessi to set up medical college

KARACHI, Sept 11: The Sindh Employees Social Security Institution is setting up a medical college in the city. This was stated by a senior official of the Sessi here on Saturday. The board of management of the Sindh Workers Education Cess has allocated a sum of Rs59 million for the medical college which will be a part of the Social Security Kulsoombai Valika Hospital.

The Sessi collects the education cess from the industrial and commercial units and diverts the money to the board.

A sum of Rs35 million were raised by the Sessi under the education cess in the last fiscal year.

The Sessi has also made available the land for the construction of the building of the medical college.

The board will undertake the construction work and then handover the building to the Sessi.

It was also pointed out that 50 per cent of the seats at the medical college would be reserved for the children of the workers.

Sindh Labour Minister Mohammad Adil Siddiqui, who is also the chairman of the governing body of Sessi, directed that the construction of the medical college should be completed at the earliest. Dr Hafeez Qureshi has been appointed as the project director of the said medical college.—APP
