KARACHI, Sept 5: Complaints of filthy water supply continue to pour in newspaper offices from several other localities despite the face that contaminated water recently claimed three lives in Mannoo Goth. Residents of North Karachi’s Sectors 2 and 3 complained that several houses of the locality had been receiving contaminated water for the last one week, but the KWSB officials have not yet taken corrective measures.
Suspecting that sewage might be seeping into potable water pipelines, residents of these localities fear that water-borne diseases might breakout if effective measures were not taken to remove the causes.
DRY DAYS: Various localities of at least six towns on Monday went without water owing to a two-day closure applied by the KWSB for undertaking interconnection work of Pipri’s new filter plant.
The localities where supply remained suspended early Monday morning include Shah Faisal Colony, Defence Housing Authority, Korangi Creek, Landhi, Korangi, KESC Thermal Power Station, National Refinery Limited, Malir Halt, Kala Board, Khokhrapar, Gulshan-e-Jamal and parts of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
All the affected localities will remain dry on Tuesday, as well.
A KWSB spokesman said the on-going interconnection work of the Pipri’s new filter plant is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday night and all the affected localities will start getting normal supply from early Wednesday morning.
Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from other parts of the city.
The hard-hit localities included Clifton’s Block 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, Bath Island, Akhtar Colony, parts of Mehmoodabad and Old City areas, such as Kharadar, parts of Lyari, Pakistan Chowk, Ramswami, Ranchorre Lines.
Residents of the affected localities complained that water shortage problem had been recurring after every two or three weeks but the KWSB officials seem least interested in resolving the issue on a permanent basis.
Residents of Old City regretted that in the absence of piped water, they have no choice but to consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.
