KARACHI, Aug 30: Members of the central coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement have condemned news reports that indicated that the city nazim of Karachi would be imposed from Islamabad, says a press release.
They said that the Haq Parast panel had achieved a landslide victory in Karachi and other parts of Sindh as a result of untiring work and support of its thousands of workers and millions of supporters and voters. They added that millions of supporters and voters had elected Haq Parast candidates belonging to their constituencies and they would never accept a nazim imposed from Islamabad.
The members of the central coordination committee termed the imposition of the nazim would be undemocratic, immoral, unethical, unjust and violative of international laws and conventions.
They added that it was also tantamount to denying the people their right. They said millions of voters and supporters firmly believed that their local councillors and UC nazims would have the full knowledge of their problems at the grass-roots level and they had every right to elect the best town nazims and the city nazim.
The members of the central coordination committee said the workers and supporters of the Haq Parast panel remained totally peaceful during both phases of the local body elections by exercising restraint and not retaliating against excesses committed against them.
They urged the president, the prime minister, the Sindh governor and the chief minister to take notice of the news reports.
