KARACHI, Aug 26: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Women Wing Karachi on Friday demanded the government to stop patronising terrorists and extortionists in the name of enlightened moderation and take notice of maltreatment of women by activists of an ally of the ruling coalition government during the local bodies’ polls.
The JI Women Wing made the demand at a resolution adopted in its shura meeting.
The resolution flayed what it called rigging and hooliganism of the MQM during the first and second phases of the LB elections in Sindh, alleging that the MQM had broken its past record of poll rigging.
Criticising the government of patronising such elements involved in mass- level rigging and violence during the polls, and threatening and victimising political opponents, the resolution demanded the government to take stern notice of the rigging and declare results of such union councils null and void.
It asked the government to award exemplary punishment to those involved in harassing polling agents and presiding officers found involved in helping bogus voting .
The resolution further demanded that an impartial election commission be established; levelling of allegations against patriotic political parties be stopped; patronage of terrorist and violent political groups in the name of enlightened moderation.—PPI
