KARACHI, Aug 24: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) will purchase fire brigade vehicles worth around Rs130 million during the current year, a meeting chaired by the CDGK caretaker was told here on Wednesday.

These vehicles include a snorkel (Rs50.5 million), 20 fire-tenders (Rs60 million) and 20 ambulances (Rs10 million).

The meeting was attended by EDO Works and Services Sarfraz Ali Shah, DO Annual Development Programme Nisar Sariyo, DO Fire Brigade and Civil Defence Shoaib Waqar and other senior officials.

It reviewed various matters relating to the fire brigade and civil defence.

The meeting was told that the CDGK had, at present, a snorkel with 103-feet long ladder, 40 fire-tenders and two ambulances. The provincial government, under the current annual development programme, had earmarked Rs60 million for purchase of a snorkel and released to the city government an amount of Rs30 million.

In the current fiscal, the new snorkel, with 130-feet ladder, would be procured. The Sindh governor has approved Rs10 million for the procurement of 20 ambulances.

The meeting was further told that the CDGK was considering establishment of more fire stations which would be constructed under the flyovers at Clifton, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, FTC, and Sharea Faisal.—PPI
