Farrukh, Aamir advance

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Farrukh Zaman and Aamir Atlas were among winners who moved into the second qualifying round of the $25,000 Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) International squash tournament on Monday at the Mushaf Complex.

Aamir, nephew of the great Jansher Khan scored a hard-fought victory against Mubashir Gul whom he beat 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 in what was a 22-minute affair.

Farrukh stayed on course for the main round but had to toil for a 11-10, 11-8, 11-6, 11-2 victory that was achieved in about 40 minutes.

Basit Ashfaq also advanced edging Waseem Shad 5-11, 11-1, 11-8, 11-6 while former Pakistan Open champion Amjad Khan eliminated Alamzeb 11-7, 11-4, 11-5.

Majid Khan needed only 10 minutes to outclass the only foreigner on show Monday - UAE’s Tarek Manzoor - who was beaten 11-3, 11-2, 11-5.

The qualifying round continues on Tuesday with the main event beginning on Wednesday.
