KARACHI, Jan 16: Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on development schemes and directed the ministers to ensure early completion of schemes.

Presiding over a meeting on Wednesday, the governor observed that it would be a great tragedy for the province and its people if funds provided for welfare projects by the government despite limited resources are not properly used.

He directed the concerned authorities to submit fortnightly reports on progress of development work and use of allocated budget.

The meeting took decisions regarding restructuring of education and agriculture departments in the light of the system of devolution of power.

He issued directives for ensuring removal of encroachments on government land and properties all over the province.

He said action be taken against those who may violate the law without consideration of their influence and the writ of the government be maintained.

Sindh’s communication secretary Hifzur Rehman informed the meeting that so far 75 per cent of the funds allocated for development schemes in the buildings and roads sector had been utilised.

The governor directed the agriculture minister to chalk out a time-frame with regard to lining of water courses and the cabinet be kept informed regularly every month about the pace of work.

Agriculture minister Hasan Ali Chaniho informed that there were a total of 45,000 water courses in Sindh, out of which 7,257 had been improved while another 5,540 would be improved during the next five years. Of them, 2,705 will be improved under Phase-IV of on-farm water management, 1,750 under National Drainage Programme-I, 1000 under Dera and another 85 under the ADP.

The meeting was informed that Bureau of Supply and Prices had been wound up whereas Sindh Seed Corporation, too, will no more be there after June 30.

The governor issued directives for holding a joint meeting of education, local government departments and the City Government for education-related matters.—APP
