US Congress team welcomes CE’s address

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: A visiting US Congress delegation warmly welcomed President Musharraf‘s address to the nation, and termed it an historic one.

The delegation, led by Senate majority leader Tom Daschle, called on President Pervez Musharraf here on Tuesday. Both the sides discussed issues of mutual interest, said a press release.

The president briefed the delegation about the situation in Afghanistan following the Bonn Agreement and the current tensions between Pakistan and India.

The president, General Pervez Musharraf, also apprised them of the internal situation in the country following his address on January 12.

The delegation of the US Congressmen also lauded Pakistan‘s support to the international coalition in the fight against terrorism.

It said the US wanted to have a long-term relationship with Pakistan on the basis of mutual interest and understanding.

The delegation included senators Bob Smith, Bryan Dorgan, Richard Durbin, Mark

Dayton and member of the House of Representative Ellen Tauscher.
