ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal of the NWFP government and upheld the decision of the Peshawar High Court, declaring illegal the creation of a new union council, Ahl, in Mansehra district during the local body election process.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokhar, ruled that a new union council could not be created without the demand of the local people and during the election process.

Advocate-General NWFP Mohammad Younas Khan Tanoli appeared before the court. M. Bilal advocate represented the respondents.

In the short order, the bench said: “The advocate-general failed to satisfy the court regarding the decision of the NWFP government to create a new union council.”—APP
