KARACHI, Jan 15: Bandits shot a security guard to death in Buffer Zone on Tuesday night.

Police said two unidentified young men, riding on a motorcycle, came to a mobile phone shop at KDA Flats in Block 2 in Buffer Zone. After getting hold of several mobile phone sets the assailants opened fire on the security guard, Shahid, aged 25, who was about to enter the shop sensing some foul play.

The assailants escaped leaving the security guard in a pool of blood. Shahid was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

CARJACKING: Twenty-eight vehicles — 11 cars and 17 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen the city on Tuesday, police said.

Most of the vehicles were taken away in districts East, South and Central. Six cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Eight motorcycles were hijacked in districts East, Central and South. Nine others were stolen in districts East, Central, West and Malir.

KILLED: A young man was stabbed to death by his room-mate in Khamosh Colony on late Monday night.

Police said Zulfiqar, aged 30, was stabbed to death by his room-mate, Aslam, at their rented house in Khamosh Colony, a shanty town. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said the assailant, identified as Aslam, escaped after stabbing Zulfiqar. Quoting the area people, police said both men were unmarried, worked as labourers and lived peacefully in their rented house.

A young bandit died of stab wounds inflicted accidentally by an accomplice of his during a robbery attempt in Mehmoodabad on late Monday night.

Police said Mohammed Masood, aged 26, a taxi-driver, picked up three passengers for Mehmoodabad on Sharea Faisal. Later, on a dark street in Mehmoodabad, the three men tried to rob the taxi-driver. When he tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they tried to attack him with daggers.

Police said Masood struggled and broke free of their hold and Salman, who was holding him from behind, received stab wounds. Two other bandits escaped.

Salman was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police said all the three bandits were carrying daggers.
