SIALKOT, Aug 5: The district police on Friday registered cases against 100 supporters of local bodies candidates for violating the wall-chalking act. However, no arrest of the violators has so far been reported.
Moreover, display of banners and walk-chalking has already been banned by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The Sialkot DCO has imposed a ban on wall-chalking, displaying banners, giant posters, hoisting political parties’ flags in the distric under Section 144 PPC. This order would remain effective for next two days.
Meanwhile, the main political parties, including the PPP, the PML-N and the MMA have expressed grave concern over police action, demanding immediate quashment of cases against their supporters.
PPP ALLEGATION: The PPP alleged that National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain, ministers and the entire government machinery were busy in the election campaign of the PML-backed candidates and misusing development funds for getting the desired results in these election.
PPP’s Qamar Abbas Chand, Khwaja Fiaz Lone, Malik Ahmad Din, Yunas Mahboob Chaudhry, Advocate Abdullah Salim, Khwaja Awais Mushtaq, Rana Shah Jehan, Qadeer Pervaiz Butt, Chaudhry Saeed Ali and Riffat Mahmood Butt said the speaker, three state and three provincial ministers were attending corner meetings of various candidates.
They were harassing candidates of other parties and forcing them to withdraw their candidatures.
The PPP leaders said they had sent complaints to the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the alleged pre-poll rigging plan of the PML.
