KARACHI, Aug 5: Important decisions were taken for activating the Arts Council’s auditorium and revival of its theatre at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan here on Friday.

The Governor directed that an intial grant of Rs 2 million be provided to make the auditorium functional and announced a seed money of Rs 10 million towards the establishment of a permanent fund.

The office-bearers of Arts Council paid compliments to the governor for his personal interest and practical efforts for revival of art and cultural activities and making the Arts Council active. They also thanked him on behalf of the citizens.

The meeting was attended by Advisor on Culture Faisal Malik, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Principal Secretary Saleem Khan, Secretary Finance Malik Israr besides Arts Council’s office-bearers Kamal Rizvi and Talat Hussain.

Meanwhile, the implementation of programme of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan for rehabilitation of noted persons, legendaries and helpless personalities in various fields residing in Sindh will start from Aug 14 - the Independence Day.

In order to give a final shape to the programme, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan at the Governor’s House.

The governor has, in cooperation with corporate organizations, chalked out a programme of permanent cooperation for meeting the educational, health and other needs of the legendaries and deceased noted personalities of the province.

Initially, 30 such personalities would be provided cooperation and later to other needy writers, artists, sportsmen, teachers and intellectuals.—APP
