ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: In a major shift in its policy, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) Unions Action Committee here on Monday postponed its anti-privatisation protest following a deal with the management. In their announcements, the unions and the PTCL management said the protest, scheduled to be held today (Monday), had been postponed in order to facilitate talks between the government and the representatives of the action committee.

The office bearers of the committee also expressed their confidence in the ongoing privatisation process and their talks with the government. The unions have also assured full cooperation to Etisalat, the UAE telecom company which has bought 26 per cent strategic shares of the PTCL on June 18. They said they would work hand in hand with the new management to make PTCL a more profitable organisation and to provide best services to customers.—Reporter
