TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 14: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) of Jhang and Toba Tek Singh have expressed concern over the government’s decision of closing basic health units in various districts due to their poor functioning.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Toba Tek Singh PMA president Dr Maqsood Ahmad Anum and Jhang PMA president Dr Jahangir said the government should improve the situation in the units instead of closing them.
They maintained, committees comprising notables of the respective areas and union councils’ Nazims as their heads, should be formed to ensure rehabilitation process in the health units and other government hospitals with the provision of requisite funds.
They also expressed concern over the shortage of medicines in health units and hospitals.
On the demand of the PMA, the District Headquarters Hospital’s MS had allocated 25 beds for the hospital for any emergency in the wake of current situation.
They urged the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide blood donors’ lists to the hospital’s blood bank officials so that they could be contacted in case of any emergency.
ANNOUNCED: The All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (APFTU) central secretary-general on Monday announced the list of new office-bearers of district organization.
Those named were representatives of various government departments. They include Chief Organizer Ghulam Mustafa Paras (Wapda), Chairman Haji Jamil Tahir (Habib Bank), President Abdi Husain (revenue), Vice President Munawar Husain (SNGPL), Vice President second Javed Iqbal (education), Vice President third Muhammad Akmal (labour), Secretary-General Rao Shamsuzzaman (PASSCO), Deputy Secretary-General Malik Naseer Abbas (National Bank), Finance Secretary Shabbir Husain (family planning), Joint Secretary Sabir Shakir (education), Coordination Secretary Malik Sher Zaman (PTCL), Information Secretary Muhammad Siddique (agriculture) and Office Secretary Naveed Iqbal (live Stock).
ELECTIONS: The local District Bar Association (DBA) elections will be held on Tuesday.
Two panels of Mian Shahid Iqbal and Mian Muhammad Afzal are vying for the office of president.
