Five PML nazims elected unopposed

GUJRAT, July 31: Five nazims of the ruling PML (Shujaat group) were elected unopposed as no candidate filed nomination papers against them, it was learnt here on Sunday.

Those elected unopposed are: Muhammad Ali Gujjar from Hajiwala union council, Chaudhry Irfan Akbar Warraich from Mungowal UC, Chaudhry Tahir Husain Tarikha from Jheeranwali UC, Chaudhry Raza Mata from Nagarianwala UC and Chaudhry Gulzar Ahmad from Thal Bakol UC.

Out of the 117 UCs in the district, the Gujrat tehsil has 65 UCs, Kharian 43 UCs and Sarai Alamgir nine UCs.

A large number of candidates of the ruling PML, the PPP and the PML-N have filed nomination papers for the slots of nazim, naib nazim and councillor.

PML sources claimed on Sunday that unopposed success of at least 15 more nazims of the Shujaat group was expected.

DISMISSED: DPO Raja Munawar Husain dismissed seven policemen from service, including an inspector, on the charge of killing a proclaimed offender in a staged encounter.

Inspector Ghulam Sarwar Gondal, SIs Arif and Inayat, ASIs Ejaz and Liaquat and three constables were found guilty in killing of PO Ghulam Murtaza in a fake encounter.
