KARACHI, July 31: Leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and the Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Sindhi, Dr Mumtaz Memon, said that madressahs were the guards of the country’s ideological frontiers and its solidarity, and the MMA would play its due role in safeguarding them.

In a statement on Sunday, he said the madressahs were busy in disseminating education of the Quran and Sunnah, and allegations of terrorist activities against them were false.

He alleged that the rulers had initiated a drive against religious schools just to prolong their rule.

He claimed that until now, there was no proof against the involvement of any madressah in terrorist activities, “but the government has still ordered a crackdown on them,” the JI leader said.

He alleged that the country’s image was being tarnished in the eyes of the world due to the wrong policies of the government.—PPI
