KARACHI, July 27: The process of admissions to the first year classes in the colleges of Karachi will start from Aug 1. The admissions will be carried out in accordance with the Centralized Admission Policy (CAP) on the basis of merit, and forms would be available at 40 designated branches of Habib Bank located in various parts of the metropolis. A brochure containing the admission form would be available at a price of Rs75.

The filled in forms would have to be submitted at the same branches of HBL.

EDO Rais Alvi said there would be two branches of Habib Bank to receive and submit the filled in forms for six categories, namely General Group (Computer Science), Home Economics Group, Technical Group, Foreign Students and those from other boards. The HBL branches are of Hassan Square and Mansfield Street, Saddar.

The rest of the candidates can obtain and submit admission forms at any of the 40 designated branches of HBL.

The candidates would have a choice of mentioning names of eight colleges in accordance with their priority.

He pointed out that this year there would be 75,000 first year seats in 120 colleges in Karachi. All applicants would be accommodated this year as was the case last year.

This year St. Joseph’s College for Women and St. Patrick’s College would not be under the CAP scheme as these institutions have been denationalized and they would be offering admissions on their own.

The capacity in the 10 colleges which were added last year is being enhanced to meet the shortfall as a result of denationalization of the two institutions, said Mr Alvi.

The classes would commence before Sept 10 in a faculty-wise process.—APP
