KARACHI, Jan 13: Sindh minister for finance, planning and development, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, has taken notice of non-implementation of laws for collection of stamp duty.

According to an announcement by the department, the minister, while taking notice of the violations, talked to Zubair Soomro, president of the Pakistan Bankers’ Association, regarding collection of stamp duty according to schedule I of the 1899 Act (Stamp Duty Act).

Later, he directed the authorized officers to visit the banks, insurance companies, public offices and government financial institutions, sift through the relevant records and take necessary action against the violators under section 73 of the Act.

He also approved the establishment of three micro filming departments for Karachi, while one each for Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Larkana.

The minister also directed the member, board of revenue, to take steps for enhancing the performance of the micro filming department.

At present it takes several months for such a registration/ property documentation.

Earlier, the member board of revenue informed the minister that Rs4,143,808 were required for increasing the facilities of the micro filming department.

He stated that 100,000 properties were registered in Karachi alone in the previous year, while the figures for Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions were 21943, 10,071, 10,285, 10,206 and 9,759 respectively.—APP
