TOBA TEK SINGH, July 12: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) on Tuesday sealed the Teku Park on the complaint of Pakistan Railways. Reports said a former tehsil nazim had auctioned the park giving two marlas out of eight acres to a city ex-councillor for setting up a hotel. He not only occupied all the park but also re-rented it to another person who arranged an industrial exhibition and levied a fee of Rs10 per person for entry into the park.
The park’s land was owned by Pakistan Railways and an NGO - Tek Singh Welfare Organisation - had raised funds worth Rs3 million from citizens for the construction of the park. Later, the railways occupied the land.
The dispute went into the court and finally after intervention of local parliamentarians, the railways minister leased the park to TMA for 10 years. Later, an inquiry was ordered against the award of contract to the former councillor. In the meantime, the railways also wrote to the TMA that it was violating the agreement on which it cancelled the ex-councillor’s contract and sealed the park.
