KARACHI, July 12: The Pakistan People’s Party has formed a monitoring committee headed by former senator Taj Haider to expose the alleged pre-election rigging being carried out by the military regime. Other members of the committee are Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Barrister Kamal Azfar, Sherry Rehman, Senator Rukhsana Zubairi and Fauzia Wahab.

According to Bilawal House media cell spokesman, the committee has asked the people of Sindh and party workers to send in the details of all sorts of pre-election rigging committed by military regime since the announcement of the schedule of the local body elections to the monitoring committee member MNA Sherry Rehman at Media Cell Bilawal House from 12noon to 4pm till July 14.

Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, on Tuesday alleged that Federal Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi had himself led raiding parties comprising of 18 police mobiles in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah Tehsils of Dadu district to threaten PPP supporters against contesting the local body elections.

In a statement, Mr Khuhro said that he had received complaints from Dadu that the federal minister along with DPO (Operations) Rukhsar Khuhawar and DPO (Investigation) Tipu Sultan was leading police raids in Fareedabad, Gozo and Sita Roads where PPP supporters were served verbal notices to leave the party and join the ruling junta or else they would be implicated in cases under war on terror laws. He said that TPO Dadu and SHO Rukan had been transferred on July 6 but to dupe the Election Commission of Pakistan, their orders were shown in back-date of June 28.

Nisar Khuhro said that Sindh was facing blatant forms of pre-election rigging and writ of the Election Commission was invisible. The PPP leader urged the Election Commission to take serious notice of the pre-election rigging being committed allegedly by the military regime and the test-tube politicians riding on its bandwagon.
