ISLAMABAD: ‘Space camp’ inaugurated

ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Salim Arshad on Saturday inaugurated the 7th Pakbase Buraq 2002 “space camp”here at the Adventure Inn.

According to a press release, the camp, established by the Pakistan Air Force-sponsored Buraq Planetary Society, will continue till January 20.

The camp is being held to inform the society’s young members about developments in space-related activities. Astronomers will give lectures to these students. About 40 “space cadets” are participating in the camp. Distinguished cadets from previous camps are also present as “commanders” to enable the participants of this camp to derive a maximum benefit from the experience.

The students participating in the camp were selected in an entrance test conducted at the PAF Information and Selection Centres in Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi on October 14. The best cadet of the Pakbase Buraq 2002 will be sent to attend a course at the United States Space Academy and two runners-up to participate in space camps in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.— Our Reporter
