KARACHI: 300 activists detained

KARACHI, Jan 12: Police rounded up more than 300 activists of religious parties during raids in different parts of the city on Saturday.

They said police had been carrying out a crackdown against militants of religious groups and arrested/detained hundreds of activists of the Sipah-i- Sahaba Pakistan and the Tehreek-i-Jafferia Pakistan in the past few days. They said the arrested suspects did not belong to any of the jihadi outfits.

The DIG Karachi, Tariq Jamil, claimed that police raided various parts in the city and picked up 74 activists of the SSP and the TJP. Talking to Dawn, he said police detained 58 activists of the SSP and 16 of the TJP.
