KHAIRPUR, July 4: A meeting was held here on Monday to review arrangements to cope with flood emergenceies. It was presided over by the DCO of Khairpur. The executive engineer west and east irrigation divisions of Khairpur, EDOs of health, forest and officials of other departments besides army officials attended the meeting. The executive engineer irrigation west division, Khairpur, told the meeting that there were four vulnerable points at bunds of Khairpur, Kingri and Gambat talukas, including Ulra Jagir band mile 4/0, Faridabad bund mile 0/0 to 2/2 and 11/0 to 12/0 and Razidero bund mile 6/0.
However, no point was most vulnerable in the area. He further told that camps will be established in these areas while the staff would be put on high alert to supervise and control the situation.
According to irrigation authorities, it would be medium level flood as pressure of water in the Indus River is on the right bank i.e. towards Larkana and Shikarpur districts.
The executive engineer west further told the meeting that the expected medium flood would reach the Sukkur Barrage on July 9, which would pass from Khairpur district within three days.
However, it was decided in the meeting that Abdars from the irrigation department and tapedars from the revenue department would survey the localities/villages of katcha areas and keep villagers aware about flood situation and also guide them to remain in touch with the district administration.
The forest department was directed to supply material for construction of katcha huts at different spots.
The health department was directed to arrange medicines, including anti-snake bite vaccines etc. along with trained health staff.
Meanwhile, Radio Pakistan, Khairpur station, would disseminate information to public of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Naushahro Feroze and Nawabshah districts about flood situation through local news and other programmes.
ONE KILLED: One person was killed and two others were seriously injured as a trailer hit a camel cart at Shah Hussain chowk, National Highway here on Sunday night.
Cart riders namely Basheer Ahmed Hajano, Mohammad Sharif Hajano and Gul Bahar Hajano were seriously injured in the accident.
They were brought to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur, where cart owner Basheer Ahmed succumbed to his injuries.
The trailer driver escaped whereas B-section police have impounded the trailer.
CLASH: Five persons were injured in a clash between two rival groups near Mevo Khan Panhiar village, some distance off Ahmedpur, on Thursday.
Ali Murad, Bakht Ali, Kabul, Barkat and Muharram were injured in the clash that took place over a land dispute.
The Ahmedpur police have registered a case.
POWER BREAKDOWN: Leaders and workers of the Shehri Action Committee took out a procession here to protest against unwarranted load-shedding for two days in a row.
Speaking to the protesters, Shakir Ali Shah, Qutbuddin Shaikh, Hussain Bakhsh, Aijaz Bhutto and others regretted that load-shedding was being practised during the extreme heat wave.
It may be noted that the citizens are facing numerous hardships due to unannounced and intermittent load-shedding.
The affected areas include Bachal Shah, Bhatti, Latif and Altaf colonies, Mall and Station roads (commercial centres), Khamisani Mohalla and Nim Maur.
