JHANG, Jan 11: Pakistan is an agricultural country and without developing this sector, the country cannot make progress in other fields.

This was stated by Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired) while addressing a gathering of notables of the district at the Jinnah Hall on Friday.

The governor said the Punjab government was giving top priority to the agriculture sector. He said he was happy that despite 50 per cent shortage of irrigation water in the province, agricultural produce and per acre yield has increased during the last three years.

Stressing the need to explore the potential of livestock, he said the government would help farmers sell their dairy produce without any problem.

Talking about the new setup of district government, he said in the new system the people have been made the master of their own destiny.

Earlier, Governor Maqbool paid a visit to the Government College for Women and sanctioned starting of post-graduate and BCS classes in the college. He also ordered to provide funds for the construction of an auditorium and a new administration block.

Later, the governor inaugurated the Jhang bypass road.
