KARACHI, Jan 11: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Friday issued contempt of court notices against chief engineer of KESC and some other officials.
The bench, comprising Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Zia Pervaiz, passed the order when the contempt application filed by Noman Baqi, chief executive of the Classic Marble, Karachi, came up for hearing.
The petitioner alleged that the KESC officials had removed the transformer which supplied electricity to the petitioner. This was done despite a restraining order issued by the court.
The transformer was removed to vitiate the orders of the court, and the alleged contemnors are playing with the process of justice, the petitioner maintained.
The bench after initial arguments by the counsel for the petitioner issued contempt of court notices to the alleged contemnors.
The KESC men against whom notices have been issued are: chief engineer Shabbir Solangi, Ashique Hussain Mughal, SE and Zahid Rahim, executive engineer, Div-III.
PAYMENT TO CONTRACTORS: The Sindh finance secretary was on Friday directed to appear before a division bench of the High Court of Sindh on Jan 24 in a case of non-payment of dues to the contractors of the Sindh irrigation department.
The bench, comprising Justice Zahid Kurban Alavi and Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, on Friday heard a constitutional petition filed by Rustam Khan and others, contractors of the Sindh irrigation department.
The petitioner contended that he had carried out work on spur bunds but their bills amounting to Rs 10 million were not being paid by the irrigation department.
The petitioner maintained that a bench of the SHC had allowed their appeal and had directed the irrigation department to ensure payment of dues to the petitioner within a time specified by the court. As the court order was not complied, the petitioners moved the court again.
MIAN MUNIR’S CASE: The same bench also put off hearing of a bail application filed by an accused/applicant Mian Munir Ahmed, a local businessman till Jan 17. The applicant accused in a number of corruption cases has sought bail on medical ground.
When the matter came up, bench was informed that jail roll summoned by the bench was not available.
