Heatwave claims six lives

SAHIWAL, June 20: Four more deaths from heatstroke were reported at the local DHQ Hospital on Monday. With the fresh casualties, the death toll from heatwave has touched to 21 during the last 10 days. Those who died were identified as Barkat Ali (70) of Chak 88/12-L, Bashir Ahmed (68) of Pakpattan Chowk, Sharifan (60) of Mission Road and Kaneez Fatima (18) of Chak 107/7-R.

SIALKOT: Heatwave claimed two lives as Sialkot experienced the hottest day on Monday with the mercury touched 45.3 degrees Celsius.

Asmat Mehmood (38) died in Nagor-Motra village, Daska tehsil, while Bashiran Bibi succumbed to heatwave in Pasrur.

While dozens of cattle also fell victims to sizzling heat in both Sialkot and Narowal districts.

Scores of people, fainted owing to extreme weather or with sunstroke attack, were admitted to government and private hospitals.

Meanwhile, the power supply also remained suspended for several hours in various urban and rural localities in simmering heat, adding miseries to the people.
