HYDERABAD, June 20: The Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee will present the water case of Sindh before foreign diplomats and representatives of funding agencies on the occasion of water conference to be held in Islamabad on June 23. Members of the Senate, national and Sindh assemblies will also be invited to attend the conference.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee held here on Monday.
The convenor of the committee, MPA Qaim Ali Shah, who is also the Sindh president of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, presided over the meeting.
Giving a briefing to reporters about the proceedings of the action committee meeting, Mr Shah said all arrangements for holding water conference on June 23, have been completed.
He said no member of the government had been invited to attend the conference as the government was least interested in resolving the water issue.
He said despite strong opposition from Sindh, the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects have not been abandoned.
He lashed out at the Sindh chief minister for his attack on the PPP, arrest of MPA Zahid Bhurgari and other leaders as well as human rights activists.
He alleged that the Sindh chief minister was trying to provoke activists of the PPP.
He said the party activists would remain calm and continue their peaceful struggle for restoration of democracy in the country.
He expressed resentment over the remarks of the chief minister against Asif Ali Zardari and PPP leadership in the Sindh assembly and said it was against all parliamentary norms to speak against someone who could not defend himself on the floor of the assembly.
He said the PPP had bagged more votes than any other party in the last general elections and it did not behove a person of the status of Sindh chief minister to hurl baseless allegations against the largest political party of the country.
He said those elements who were accusing the PPP of having relations with the underworld were perhaps themselves associated with the underworld.
