Three killed

GILGIT, Jan 10: At least three persons were killed and one was injured in two incidents in Gilgit district on Wednesday.

At Nilt in Nagar subdivision, two persons died and another was injured in a mine accident, sources at Sikandarabad police station told Dawn.

Haji Faqeer and Haider, of Nilt, died inside the mine and Fida Ali was injured when their temporary shelter caved in.

Their bodies were recovered from the debris and the injured was shifted to a hospital.

Qaisar, 27, of Nomal, died when he fell from a rock while hunting in Mehdiabad, Skardu.

A wolf killed at least 50 cattle in Nazbar during the night. The owners of the cattle said they had suffered huge losses and called upon the administration to take measures to protect their animals. They also demanded compensation for the loss.

CAMP SET UP: Gilgit Police have camped at Oshikhandas, 20kms from here, to track down the alleged killers of Akram who was killed on Sunday, police sources told Dawn on Thursday.

The sources said that failure in finding a clue to this blind murder had prompted police officials to set up a makeshift camp at Oshikhandas for collecting all available information about the incident and also interrogating the suspects.
