HYDERABAD, June 12: Following the prime minister’s announcement that wheat flour will be made available at utility stores at Rs11.50 per kilogramme, prices of both wheat and flour have increased in the city. Hyderabad Chakki Owners Welfare Association president Nawab Khan told Dawn on Sunday that a wheat bag of 100kgs that was earlier being sold at Rs1,050 per bag was now available at Rs1,150.
He said following the announcement by the prime minister that wheat flour would be made available at cheaper rates, the price of wheat had increased by more than Rs100 per bag and the price of flour had increased from Rs15 per kg to Rs16 per kilogramme in two days.
Mr Khan claimed that enough stock of wheat was available with federal and Sindh governments. He said the wheat stock should be released to stabilize the prices.
He said the government should fix prices of wheat and flour and provide sufficient wheat to chakkis.
