DARRA ADAMKHEL (FR Kohat), June 10: A wanted man was arrested here on Thursday, raising the number of detained tribesmen to 55, as a crackdown on criminals believed to be hiding in the region continued for the third consecutive day.

The authorities blocked roads in different areas in Darra Adamkhel and impounded 25 vehicles under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) to force the tribal people to surrender the criminals and deny shelter to them in the area.

The man held on Thursday was identified as Ghazi, who was wanted in car-lifting cases.

Meanwhile, the FR authorities have asked a local jirga to stop holding more talks with the tribes for the surrender of alleged criminals.

The tribal elders have also expressed concern over the arrests of innocent people during the crackdown against criminals. They have decided to boycott talks and withdraw cooperation to the administration in the operation against the criminal elements.

The public transport owners and drivers have also threatened to observe a strike if the administration did not stop impounding the private vehicles.
