BUNER, Jan 9: Two young women are spending their days in the sub-jail Daggar here in the Buner district for quite a long time for protesting against what they called “forcible marriage and engagement” by their parents.
When their parents tried to marry them against their will, the two girls resisted, but they were sent to sub-jail under Zina Ordinance for allegedly trying to “elope”.
This was revealed by Shahida, 23 and Mimon Nissa, 14, during a visit of a three-member Citizens Action Committee, Buner, to the local jail on Tuesday.
Shahida had been married to Shahzad Gul by her father Wazir Mohammad against her will. She was unhappy with her husband and quarrels became a routine. At last, Shahida, who was expecting and felt insecure in her husband’s house, went to her relatives and started working there as a housemaid to keep herself and pregnancy safe.
Her husband lodged an FIR against her in which he charged her with eloping with a neighbour Khan Saeed.
The Daggar police arrested them under sections 6 and 11 of the Zina Ordinance. Now, Shahida is in the jail with her baby. Her husband has died a month back.
The case of the other prisoner, Mimon Nissa, is not different in nature. She was also married against her will by her father Mubarak Hussain. She was unhappy and left her house with Rehan Gul.
Her father lodged an FIR against them and the police arrested them. She was charged under sections 5, 10, 11 and 19 of Zina Ordinance and was sent to jail.
