SKARDU, May 12: Diversion of Shatung canal project has been cancelled after an objection by a non-government organization, reliable sources told Dawn here on Wednesday. The project comprised the dam, 14MW hydro power stations, and supply of drinking and irrigation water.

Work on the dam was launched in 2003, but when work on the diversion of the canal project started recently, the Himalayan Wildlife objected, claiming that the project would affect ecosystem of Deosai plateau.
