The governor asked the medical experts to give the government their valuable suggestions in this regard so that the proposed laws could be finalized at the earliest.
He said that the government would utilize all available resources to create awareness among the masses against this disease, besides providing treatment facilities to the thalassaemia patients.
Dr Ibad said that precautionary measures were very important for the prevention of this disease.
Regarding pre-marriage thalassaemia test, he said that the best possible steps would be ensured in this regard, while taking care of the prevalent social norms.
Earlier, Fatimid Foundation Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Moinuddin Haider in his address lauded the services of the Sindh governor for lawmaking regarding safe blood transfusion.
He said that his foundation used to provide services to 72 per cent patients of thalassaemia in 30 centres around the country.
Meanwhile, another function was organized by the Husaini Blood Bank to mark the World Thalassaemia Day.
Expressing concerns over rapid growth of the disease in Pakistan, speakers said that if appropriate measures were not taken immediately to create awareness among the masses, the situation would go beyond control.
On the occasion children suffering from the disease performed and exhibited their talents in different areas like music, computer, painting and acting etc.
Lieutenant General Syed Ather Ali, Commander 5, Corps, who was chief guest on the occasion, donated Rs100,000 to the Husaini Blood Bank.
The managing trustee of the bank, Altaf Nazim, warned if immediate action was not taken for the prevention of thalassaemia, it would spread like an epidemic.—PPI/APP
