KARACHI, May 7: The Supreme Court has issued notices to the chief secretary and the education secretary asking them to explain why its order in respect of a former principal of St Patrick’s College had not been implemented. The order had dismissed a provincial government petition for leave to appeal against a Sindh Service Tribunal order reinstating Prof Sibte Hasan Zaidi, who was first transferred from the college and subsequently removed from service when he challenged his transfer. The ex-principal reached the age of superannuation in the meanwhile.
The Sindh Service Tribunal decision, which became final on dismissal of the petition for leave to appeal in September 2004, remains unimplemented despite repeated requests by the ex-principal.
He moved an application for the initiation of contempt proceedings against the authorities responsible for the implementation and the court issued notices to the chief secretary and education secretary to submit their explanation by May 11.
