Landmine explosion kills 16 in India

NEW DELHI, Jan 6: Sixteen people, 14 of them soldiers, were killed when a landmine accidently exploded in India’s northwestern state of Punjab close to the border with Pakistan, a security official said on Sunday.

“A mine, which was being carried to the border, accidently exploded killing 16 people and injuring 17,” a senior official of the Border Security Force (BSF) said.

He said the incident occurred late on Saturday close to the border town of Amritsar. —Reuters
