LAKKI MARWAT, May 5: District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan has asked the provincial government to take district governments into confidence before finalizing an agricultural package for farmers. “The consultation with local governments in this regard may prove helpful in coping with the problems being faced by peasants at the grass-root level,” a press release issued by the district secretariat on Thursday quoted him as saying.
He suggested launching projects for farmers’ wellbeing in the province, besides making the process of awarding loans to them as easy as possible.
The nazim asked the government to construct farm-to-market roads and take measures to improve the Rod Kohi irrigation system in areas which were completely dependant upon rains for irrigation purposes.
He also suggested to the government to allocate special funds in the proposed agriculture package for coping with the problem of land erosion caused by water and wind in order to increase the area of cultativation.
He urged the MMA-led provincial government to focus on research work in the agriculture field and make efforts to develop new varieties of seeds.
