SIALKOT, Aug 28: Five people, including two women, were killed and 14 others suffered grievous injuries in three road accidents in the district on Thursday.
A speeding wagon (PK-3415) overturned on the Sialkot-Sambrial Road near Roypur village, Uggoki. Two passengers, Sadia Saeed Tabasum and Riasat Ali, died on the spot and 14 others injured.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital where the condition of driver Imran, and passengers Saleem Shahid Ali, Qasim Din and Muhammad Ahmad was stated to be critical.
Uggoki police have registered a case.
Two persons, identified as Muhammad Adeel and Manzoor Shah, were killed in a head-on collision between two rashly-driven wagons near Chak Nizam at Satrah.
At Kotli Naushera village, Daska, six-year-old Sonia Aslam was run over and killed by a truck.
Relevant police have registered cases and are investigating.
SET FREE: The Punjab chief minister’s special inquiry team on Thursday absolved the three district jail constables of having involved in the jail incident.
After conducting a detailed inquiry, the team directed the police to free constables Muhammad Jamil, Maulvi Siddique and Munir Ahmad.
SHOT DEAD: The gunman of Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed was shot dead by two persons over a petty dispute at Chahla village, Shakargarh, on Wednesday.
Muhammad Rafiq, an Elite Force constable, was on leave, and playing a volley ball match at home when Basharat and Mushtaq, players of his rival team, fired at him after a brief altercation. They fled immediately, leaving him dead.
Shakargarh police registered a case, but have yet to arrest the suspects.
The deceased was laid to rest at his native graveyard in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
ROBBERY: Robbers on Wednesday night plundered cash, ornaments and other valuables worth Rs1 million from the house of a UK-returned family at Nangal village, Uggoki.
Uggoki police have registered a case against the suspects.
