KARACHI, Aug 27: Inordinate delay in the repair work of Shah Latif Bhittai Road in Lyari Town has irked the residents of the area, who have been facing lots of problems.
The road has been badly damaged by the rains which caused potholes and ditches in a number of places. Traffic on a long stretch of the road from the Kalri police station up to the Ali Hotel roundabout remained closed for quite sometime due to stagnant sewerage water.
Area people continue to suffer because of gutter overflows and damaged roads in the locality, although a month has passed since the city received rains.
Almost all the major and link roads were damaged in the locality, leaving hardly any one safe for journey.
The Sindh government and the city government have been repeatedly assuring the people of urgent repair works on the damaged roads, particularly on Shah Latif Bhittai Road, a major link road connecting Lyari Town with Saddar Town.
The city government’s efforts to fill potholes and ditches with gravels have made travelling more difficult on the Bhittai Road, as a long stretch of the road, from the Kalri police station up to the Ali Hotel roundabout has been damaged, compelling the drivers to keep their vehicles on the extreme right to Karabai Karim Karimji Road and Shah Waliullah Road.
The area people complained that the civic agencies had left the gravels which were to be used for filling ditches on the road, which were damaging private vehicles.
The damaged road is also causing problems to the patients who want to visit private hospitals in Kharadar.
The residents of the Baghdadi union council have expressed resentment over the undue delay in road repair works in the locality, and urged the officials to resume repair works. They said the condition of Shah Latif Bhittai Road and Fida Husain Sheikha Road had been deteriorating for the last many years.
