HYDERABAD, Aug 27: The GOR police had registered no case till the filing of this report at 8pm on Wednesday against a man who was arrested three days back for his alleged involvement in illegal trade of chemicals used in blasting coalmines.

The news of the arrest of Gul Mohammad Daedano by a Crime Investigation Cell team was disclosed to journalists by the adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, on Aug 25. He said Daedano was arrested in Baban Shah Colony, GOR police station jurisdiction, on Sunday night.

The adviser dispelled the impression that the arrest had anything to do with President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Hyderabad.

Mr Shaikh said he had come to Hyderabad after rumours spread in the city that there was a threat to the president’s life.

The chemicals recovered from the accused included 50 kilograms of dynamite powder, 250kgs of sulphur nitrate, 60 kgs of sodium nitrate, 20 kgs of carbon and 40 fuse rolls (3,000 metres).

The SHO of the GOR police station, Naeem Siddiqui, told this correspondent by telephone on Wednesday night that so far no FIR was registered at the police station against Daedano.

He said he was not informed by CIC officials about the arrest of the man in his police station’s jurisdiction and added that he came to know about it through his own sources.

It was learnt that Daedano was detained at the Baldia police station, the office of the CIC. He has not been handed over to the GOR police.

There are also reports that he was arrested in Hala Naka or Khanote and other persons were also picked up along with him but they have not been shown as arrested.
