Colombo plans development drive

COLOMBO, Aug 27: In order to show the populace the positive aspects of the one and a half year’s of truce with the LTTE, the government plans to begin a major development drive, titled “Take your share of peace” by implementing a rural electrification and road development programme, it was revealed at a media briefing on Tuesday.

The project which is expected to begin in the South is expected to be implemented at a cost of Rs 17.4 billion during the next 18 months.

Nearly 1,625,000 people are expected to benefit from this project. Under the accelerated programme to develop rural roads, each electorate will be given Rs.2 million.
