BEIJING, Aug 27: China has invited Pakistan to attend the first-ever World Economic development Declaration (WEDDC) conference to be held in Guangdong Province early November.
“We expect Pakistan’s active role in the conference,” said an organizer of the conference while talking to APP here on Wednesday. He said Pakistan is an important member of the region and could help strengthen bonds of economic partnership among the regional countries.
The role of Pakistan, he added is also significant, since it serves as transit point for trade to Central Asian States and Middle East.
The WEDDC is aimed at providing a platform for exchange and cooperation, accelerate common development and further implement the “Millennium Declaration” adopted by the UN Millennium Summit in September 2000.
Through the issuance of the declaration, the purpose of the Conference is to promote the establishment of a new international economic order featuring equality, mutual benefit, interdependence and common development.
The guiding principles for boosting world economic growth will also underscore the rational use of natural resources to achieve sustainable development, in addition to a fair and equal distribution of wealth among nations, according to a draft released at a press conference yesterday.
Wang told the press conference that the declaration is being written by six winners of the Nobel prize for economics, including Lawrence Klein and James Heckman, and six Chinese economists such as Li Yining and Dong Fureng.
More than 1,000 Chinese and foreign politicians and economists are expected to discuss thorny issues relating to the world and Chinese economies, he said. The conference will be held on November 6 and 7.
Meanwhile, annual conference of another of world economic forum, Boao for Asia will be held in Boao, Hainan Province, China on November 2. President Pervez Musharraf has been invited to the conference. It will be attended by 1000 delegates, including current and former leaders from Asian countries, prominent figures from the business community, and distinguished academia, as well as other special guests from all over the world.—APP
