LAHORE, Aug 25: The railway administration increased rail fares by 10 per cent from Monday. A decision to hike the fare was taken by the railway board a couple of days ago.
The decision will affect the passengers who are travelling for 100 kms or more.
Under another decision, charges for parcel service through mail and express trains have also been increased by 15 per cent.
However, a railway spokesman has denied reports that the fare hike will also encompass goods trains.
Meanwhile, railway chairman Khurshid Ahmad Khan on Monday visited the Lahore dryport and directed its authorities to increase container handling capacity of the port from 3,200 to 4,000 containers.
He also reviewed arrangements for running twice a week parcel train between Wazir Mansion, Karachi, and Kot Lakhpat, Lahore.
It will be a facility for all those people who want to transport their luggage/small quantity of goods from one place to another.
If accorded good response, the train may be run on a daily basis.
