TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 25: After raising an objection by some tehsil council members in its meeting on Monday over auctioning of a parking contract worth Rs3.9 million, the house cancelled the contract with majority votes.
Out of 35 members present in the meeting, 21 members opted for the cancellation of contract, 10 members favoured to retain the contract while four members did not take part in the voting.
Those who raised voice against this contract blamed that the contract was approved for less money while several contractors were ready to pay much more for it.
The House was informed that the Punjab government had directed not to collect transport service charges (toll tax) from the vehicles. Therefore, the House also cancelled the recently auctioned contract of said charges worth Rs4.4 million.
Many members opposed the levying of tax of Rs100 per month on motorcycle rickshaws and the house also cancelled the collection of this tax in future. The House decided that the amount of fine would be written off if the defaulters of water supply paid their outstanding dues within next two months.
The meeting also abolished the fee for the issuance of NOC for the purpose of getting connections of gas, electricity and telephone.
