MITHI, Aug 20: The Inter Press Communication organized a one-day media workshop in collaboration with the British Council’s international development department here on Tuesday.

Speakers at the workshop said journalists should extensively report human rights issues though ethnic and religious extremism and insecure environment had made journalism a difficult task.

They stressed the need for doing away gender discrimination and called for taking measures to ensure provision of education, health and other facilities to women.

They said people continued to become victims of the Karo-kari custom but perpetuators of the crime were seldom taken to task.

The speakers included former Human Rights Commission of Pakistan vice-chairman Saleem Asmi, Kishwar Naheed, Sheen Farrukh, Tharparkar District Naib Nazim Ramsingh Sodho, Mithi Taluka Nazim Faqir Sher Mohammad Bilalani and Dr Sono Khangharani.
