GUJRANWALA, Aug 18: A district administration and police team claimed on Monday to have arrested the owner of a theatre, play producer and a dancer for violating ban on showing obscene dances.
According to reports, the district administration received complaints that a theatre situated in Baghbanpura was ignoring the code of ethics, and promoting obscenity by allowing dances on the stage.
The team raided the theatre from where it arrested the dancer, theatre director Zafar Baloch and play producer Muhammad Tariq. Some other people, including performers, reportedly managed to escape.
However, police have registered a case against those held and absconded.
NOMINATION PAPERS: The nomination papers of eight aspirants for the Kamoki tehsil Nazim’s slot were scrutinized by the relevant returning officer on Monday.
The contenders are Rana Sajjad Ahmad Khan, a brother of Provincial Transport Minister Chaudhry Shamshad Ahmad Khan, Nasir Ahmad Chattha, Faisal Adnan Sindhu, Muhammad Asghar, Azizur Rahman, Muhammad Naseer and two Nazims, Ehsanullah Virk and Rana Muhammad Asif Dargahpuri.
The seat was vacated by Chaudhry Shamshad, who had contested the election for an MPA.
FOUND DEAD: A building contractor was found dead at his house at Kalar Abadi, here on Monday.
Reports said Rana Abdul Latif, who was residing alone at a rented house, was given poison by his two guests whom he had served cold drinks. He died within few minutes.
Police found the body and sent it to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.
HEARING: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2, Gujranwala, continued on Monday the hearing of the murder of PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun.
The judge, Rafiuzzaman, adjourned the hearing till Aug 27 when the prosecution could not produce the challan of accused Muhammad Shafiq.
The court directed police to submit the challan on the next date of hearing.
However, the court accepted the bail application of another accused, Sabir Husain.
INVOICES: The income tax invoices submitted by the business community under the self-assessment scheme will be accepted without any scrutiny.
This was stated by Income Tax Circle No 6 taxation officer Shaikh Muneer Ahmad while talking to the business community at a meeting here on Monday.
He said that an increase of 20 per cent in invoices of the traders had been eliminated on their demand while the tax range had been extended from Rs60,000 to Rs80,000 in the current federal budget.
He suggested that the business community should submit their income tax invoices in accordance with their accounts and income otherwise their cases could be checked and scrutinized.
Anjuman Tajran president Shah Jahan Sheikh and other traders apprised him of their problems and demanded that small traders should be exempted from maintaining the record, accounts and other statistics.
